This one’s for my man, Dave “Duty” Dutille. Ice Fisherman Extrordinaire and general all around nicest guy on the planet
We spent some time at Kezar over President’s day weekend and, as always, ice-fisher-folk plied the ice all weekend. They typically make themselves known at about 6AM when their motorized augers start drilling holes in the ice waking us up far earlier than any human being should be woken on a holiday weekend. Imagine the incongruity of being woken to the sound of a 2 stroke chain saw engine going full tilt in the middle of February. It’s enough to make you think you woke up on another planet…or that you slept straight through till june.
Well the golden hour before sunset can make just about anything look appealing so I took the opportunity to see if I could make this classic pastime of the great white north look intriguing. I think Davie captured it best:
“These photos capture the essence of masculinity: the primal persuit of prey against the elements… and beer.”
There you have it. Stay warm.
