General Wharton

Portrait of General Wharton

This is a very cool story of deep family history and a largely forgotten outpost of the Civil War.

Our friend Sue Bell is the great, great granddaughter of Confederate Gen. Gabriel Wharton and Nannie Radford Wharton, a founding family of present-day Radford, VA.   About 5 years ago Sue found a treasure trove of 500 letters written by the General and Nannie in her parent’s garage.  She began the long process of manually transcribing each and every letter and we’ve been listening to her stories and letter readings for years.  They are fascinating.

Historians are calling this an unprecedented find.  The quantity of content and the level of detail here is providing new insight on a less than fully documented corner of the war.  She worked out a book deal not long ago and the media is starting to take notice.

You can read the full story HERE.

She also recently made the final cut for Antiques Road Show and was video taped for an episode that will air in the spring of 2018.

While it’s always nice to see my client’s headshots in the media, what we are REALLY looking forward to is the movie deal!
